Travel Tips and Resources

Spending lots on your next trip?
Make your money’s worth by following these do’s and don’ts for your next travels.
Travel Do’s
Carry cash - You never know if the locations you are going to won’t accept cards, especially in more rural locations. It is recommended to have multiple options for paying, e.g., credit card, debit card, cash, and Wise card.
Be aware of free wifi spots - Roaming and data are always going to be expensive, so make sure to look out for the “free wifi” signage or simply ask customer services in your location.
Bring a power adapter - It is easy to forget that some locations don’t have the same electric plug system, and you don’t want to be left with a dead phone in a unknown country.
Purchase travel insurance - This is such a necessary precaution. Don’t be that person that believes nothing will happen because if something does happen, you will end up stuck paying larges sums of money.
Respect local customs - As a tourist, you are lucky to be welcomed into that country to explore it, so be respectful of the people that live there and learn the locals customs.
Set up a cell phone plan - Your usual phone plan for data is not going to work in another country. This means you are either going to need to purchase a roaming plan or buy a SIM card for the country you are traveling to.
Have a small bag on your body at all times - Traveling can often be hectic, and it is common to lose your belongings. Losing your passport, phone, or wallet while on a plane or during your travels can be a nightmare. Keeping a small body bag with your essential items close to you will help prevent this from happening and keep your valuables secure.
Wear appropriate footwear - Traveling means you are going to be on your feet a lot more than usual. It is a very common mistake to wear shoes that end up giving your feet nasty blisters by the end of the trip. Let’s prevent this by not wearing your shiny new shoes or shoes with inflexible soles.
Travel Don’ts
Don’t feed the wildlife unless provided with animal food - Animals can be subject to detrimental health problems if you feed them food that is not good for them.
Don’t wear flashy jewelry - This is likely to make you a target for robbery and pickpocketing, so either be more aware or stick to low-key pieces.
Don’t take photos in inappropriate settings - Some cultural places will have signs up saying, “NO PHOTOGRAPHY.” Yet tourists continue to take photos. This is very disrespectful towards the locals and their culture, so make sure to look out for these signs to prevent causing problems.
Forgetting to inform your bank about your trip - This means your bank won’t be aware of looking out for scams and fraudulent activities on your card and bank account while you travel.
Don’t get money out at the airport - Airport services like money exchange will rack up much higher rates and fees than if you were to exchange cash in your home country via your bank, foreign exchange shop, or while in your destination.
Forgetting to check the weather forecast before you leave - The weather you may be expecting might not actually be the weather you will be receiving while you are there. Make sure to check the weather to allow yourself to prepare the appropriate gear for your travels.
Don’t forget to look after your body - If you have medications you must take or a diet you must stick too, don’t forget it. It can be easy to get caught up in your holiday life while you are away, causing you to neglect your usual routines.
Don’t get caught up in tourist scams - One thing you must be aware of is the amount of people scamming tourists in different countries. These scammers will always be trying to sell you something or get you to sign up for things, best thing to do is ignore them and not show interest.
